Lessons

Contessa offers lessons for all levels of rider from the complete beginner to advanced riders. The price of each lesson depends upon the length of the lesson, the number of riders in a lesson and the level of the Instructor. See prices for a complete list.

All new clients must start with an assessment lesson and can then discuss with their instructor what type of lesson would best suit them to continue with, whether that is group, private or semi-private (up to four). You do not necessarily have to stick to the same instructor; you may experience a variety and find the one that suits you best.

New clients are required to join a scheme we are associated with called the Equine Club. There are many benefits of joining, the main one being personal accident and public liability insurance. It costs just £20 for an adult and £15 for a child for the whole year and is payable on the first lesson. For more information please give the office a call or visit www.equineclub.co.uk.

Contessa is primarily a training centre and we do not offer hacking, other than a woodland walk around our own land. Payment for the first lesson is taken in advance and you are advised to arrive about 15minutes early in order to fill out information/insurance forms. Contessa requires 24 hours’ notice of cancellation- 48 hours at weekends; otherwise the cost of the lesson will be incurred.

Specialist lessons –

  • Advanced Dressage lessons – Contessa has several advanced horses available for riders that want to get a feel for the advanced movements. Riders must be assessed and deemed of a suitable standard before they can be allocated an advanced horse.
  • Lunge lessons – Used to improve rider’s position and balance. Lunge lessons are suitable and useful to riders of all levels.
  • Side Saddle Taster Sessions – Contessa offer private lessons as well as group short courses in riding side saddle for those wishing to try something different.
  • Video Lessons – These consist of a ride followed by a playback. They are a useful aid to identify problems in position and horse’s way of going, letting you see for yourself what might be going wrong – or right!
  • Show Jumping Lessons – There are a variety of horses that can help with your jumping confidence and ability, from the novice to more experienced rider.
  • Vaulting lessons - Every Saturday 12.30-2pm or by arrangement.
  • Exam Training Sessions – Both for riding and theory, Contessa can help you through your exams and make an assessment of your current ability and indicate how far you have to go before you are ready to take your next qualification.
